Bernard G. Johnson Coliseum, the home of Sam Houston State University men's and women's basketball and volleyball, seats 6,110 fans.
The arena is one of the toughest places to play in the Southland Conference. Since the 2000 season, the Bearkats have rolled up a record of 135 victories and only 30 losses on their home floor.
From 1998 to 2008, the Sam Houston State men’s basketball team went 46-0 against non-conference competition at Johnson Coliseum.
Since the arena was dedicated on Feb. 9, 1976, with a 59-54 defeat of Southwest Texas State, the Kats own a record of 314 victories and 127 losses in the building.
The most recent project completed at Sam Houston inclues upgrades to Johnson Coliseum. For the fans, there have been three major upgrades. In 2015, new Daktronics video board was installed. In 2016, season ticket holders have been treated to new telescopic seating in the lower courtside level as well as a new Bearkat Champions Basketball Club area.
